Things to consider when planning your destination wedding:

Plan Early - Let people know your plans as far in advance as possible. You can send out save-the-dates, but a personal call will do as well.

Contact an Agent Specializing in Destination Weddings - to help negotiate a lower group rate and assist with all of your group's travel plans.

Consider Location - make sure the wedding day is not during the local hurricane season or wet months. How many people do you want to be there - just you and your future spouse? Friends? Family? Are you also planning on honeymooning there, or somewhere else?

Make Your Travel Reservations Early - many resorts and hotels are booked months in advance, especially during peak travel seasons.

Research the Marriage Requirments - it may be as simple as going to the local courthouse to sign a marriage license, or it may be as complicated as having to fulfill a residency requirment. Most resorts have wedding coordinators who will handle the entire license processing for you. If you plan on having a legal ceremony in Mexico, blood tests are required.

Let your guests know about other things to do while they are at your destination.

Consider having a second wedding reception when you return for guests that couldn't attend.

When we started looking for a travel agent to look after our wedding group we had contacted a few different agencies in Regina. Most of them either didn't even get back to us at all or it was a lengthy wait for a reply, so when we where given a card for The Art of Travel from a friend, we sent an email and we had a quick reply from Jean with all our questions answered.
